Sustainability
It is estimated that only around 6-7% of hardwoods used in the UK are sourced locally, with most being imported from Europe and beyond. In 2021 the UK imported 81% of all its' timber, soft and hardwoods from other countries.
Being based in the heart of Argyll with its wonderful reserves of mature timber we are ideally located to provide locally sourced hardwoods and softwoods for our customers.
We work closely with a varity of local farms, estates, tree surgeons and forestry companies to ensure that the vast majority of our timber comes from local and sustainable sources.
At Loch Awe Hardwoods we are committed to supporting our beautiful rural environment and wildlife. In addition, sourcing timber from the surrounding area also helps support the local economy and sustain local employment and skills.
We are pleased to be members of The Association of Scottish Hardwood Sawmillers which promotes locally sourced Scottish hardwoods to the Scottish market.
ASHS also encourages growing and managing broadleaf woodlands which have a high biodiversity value providing landscape amenity and wonderful places for walking and recreation.
